Jim Langston, Founder of Purple Heart Motor Works, Inc., was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He was raised in Farmington, New Mexico. After graduation from high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy, spending his 18th birthday in Viet Nam. Honorably discharged, he enrolled at Eastern New Mexico University, where he was engaged in student politics and the Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduating with Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Geography and History in the spring of 1969.
Jim entered the U.S. Navy’s Aviation Officers Candidate School and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy at Pensacola, Florida. He then ended his active duty naval career with another combat tour as the Gunnery Officer on the USS Albert David DE1050, transferring to the Active Reserve in 1972.
Graduating first in his class in 1973 at the Mobil Oil Corp School of Marketing, Jim was transferred to Tucson, Arizona where he was entrusted with all of Mobil Oil Corporation’s outlets in Southern Arizona.
In 1976, Jim enrolled in the University of Arizona for post-graduate work. He formed Trident Realty Investments and Development, Inc. in 1977. Jim was licensed as a realtor and general building contractor where his companies built and sold high-end and custom homes and office tenant improvements over the next 31 years.
After approximately four years of semi-retirement, Jim was moved to fill a need for his fellow veterans and formed Purple Heart Motor Works. Jim has three grown children, Scott, April, and Jennifer, and seven grandchildren. His community involvements include: Member of the Copper Bowl Foundation, past President of its Century Club, Arizona Sports Foundation and Insight.Com Bowl, past President of the Quarterback Club, past President of the Tucson Alumni Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Member of the University of Arizona Alumni Association, Tucson Chapter, and current President of the USS Albert David DE1050 Association.
